Each session will be directed by Susan Hughes, (artist /tutor).

Who will be able to attend?

The classes aim to be flexible, relaxed occasions suited to a broad range of individual needs and varied levels of ability. The aim is to create a stress-free approach to drawing, an environment which helps to improve skills, and creates a meditative individual space.
A variety of models have already been booked and each session will respond to the model and the group dynamic. Therefore, a variety of approaches to drawing will be on offer over the range of session available.
The possibility of using drawing to further develop individual art practice will also be a part of each session - Too many drawings are just filed away when they are a great source for stimulating creative ideas, projects and individual direction - These ideas will be on offer but you will be encouraged to pick and mix to suit your own needs.

What will I need to bring?

There will be plenty of tables and chairs at the venue, but currently there are no drawing boards. So you will need some thing to attach paper to, such as a piece of laminated board, hardboard or I find plastic estate agent for sale boards light and strong – so if you have one of these this would be suitable to rest on. You can also bring your own easel, if you have one. There is parking at the centre to make bringing larger equipment possible. You will need to bring your own drawing materials and paper. For those new to life-drawing charcoal/pencils are very forgiving when used on very smooth paper.
Tea and coffee is available in the short break.

How do I sign up?

How much do the Life sessions cost.
Do you have to book in advance.

I have just moved into Portland, so looking forward to getting to know more artists.

“Just a short note to say thank you for setting up a great session. It
is in an easy location, plenty of parking and a good room, I thought
the model was very good and enjoyed and appreciated your input. It
was great to see a good number there and I urge other artwey members
to try to make the next session.”.

“It was a lovely class, I thoroughly enjoyed it and thank you for your support and encouragement. I know I’m not very good, but at least I’m getting some pleasure out of doing it.”

“Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the class yesterday, I've only just started drawing again after 20 odd years and it was the first life drawing I've ever attended, obviously I've a lot of work to do and a long way to go, but like everyone else I really did enjoy it. Thank you.”
