The Icing on the Cake

Young Local Authority of the Year 2010
Cleo Evans and Farrell Curran (Arts Officers, DCC) entered
the 'Young Local Authority of the Year 2010' to represent Dorset County
Council.
The annual event is attended by teams of two from local authorities across the country, all competing in a topical debate challenge.
Cleo and Farrell presented a paper called 'The Icing on the Cake' which argued that the Arts "have a place in every aspect of life and have benefits for everyone- on an individual, community and public level" and are "not just the icing on the cake of public services."
They presented their paper on the 17th March, and were very well received. Two other entries spoke against the use of public resources to support the Arts, but were outgunned by the Dorset County pair, whose arguements carried the day.
